T-34
The T-34 was the most produced tank of World War II. When it first saw combat in 1941, its sloped armor design was able to resist almost everything the enemy could throw at it. While its 76mm gun gave it sufficient firepower to penetrate early German tanks, its poor optics and ergonomics limited its effective range and rate of fire. Despite an upgrade to the turret and an increase in the caliber of the gun in 1943, it never regained its initial edge against German tanks, except by its sheer numbers. Impressively, T-34’s were still used in some countrie until the 1990’s, a testament to the qualities of the original design.
